Cold Weather Coming Back! Make Sure Your Home is Ready

Will the cold weather come back to Michigan in winter 2018?2018 has been a chilly and snowy one for us in the Midwest.  We may be getting a bit of a respite right now with temperatures in the 30s and 40s, but since it is only January, many of us a wondering if this temperate weather will stick around.  Will we once again have to don our heavy winter coats, hats, and gloves just to go get the mail at the end of the driveway?  Will the cold weather come back?

The Weather Channel has recently offered a forecast for the rest of the winter by The Weather Company, an IBM Business.  You can read the full article, or watch the video here.

Basically, when we look into February, Michigan can expect to see “Near or Slightly Below Average Temperatures.” According to U.S. Climate Data, the average temperature high for Detroit in February is 32 degrees while the low is 18 degrees.  So, it seems we can expect some cold weather to come back, but maybe not the frigid temperatures we felt earlier this year.

Looking into March 2018, Michigan falls in the range of “Below Average” temperatures, so do not expect an early spring.  With U.S. Climate Data reporting that Detroit’s average temperature high in March is 42 degrees while it’s low is 27 degrees, we don’t think we will be able to put away that puffy coat any time soon.

Make sure your home is ready for the return of the cold weather by continuing to clean or change your furnace filter every 3 months.  Your furnace has probably been working hard, and maintaining a clean filter allows it to keep working efficiently.  Plus, a clean filter will keep the air you breathe cleaner as well–which, is important when you aren’t spending as much time outside during the winter months.

Furthermore, if you haven’t done so already, it’s not too late to add extra insulation to protect your home against the cold and make sure doors and windows are sealed from leaks.  For more information about surviving in the cold weather without breaking the bank, contact Flame!
