Green rivers, green beer, green milkshakes… Thanks to St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, the month of March is filled with green. In keeping with the spirit of things, we want to highlight some fun green things as well.
We want to bring some green into your home this spring. By green, we mean energy saving. Whether you’re Irish or not, you can still make some updates to your home in order to save money this March. Here are 4 energy saving products that you should switch out in your home.
According to Energy.gov, heating and cooling the home are some of the biggest expenses in a home. Smart thermostats, such as The Nest Learning Thermostat, learn your family’s schedules and preferences and set the temperature accordingly. The heat goes down when everyone is out of the house, and it comes back on when everyone is back home for dinner. Energy saving…and you don’t even have to do anything!
Showers come in third place in home water usage (right behind toilets and clothes washers). Switching out your shower head for a low flow head will help to cut back on some of that water usage.
Phantom or vampire power occurs when devices still use electricity while plugged in–even if they are turned off. A smart power strip solves this problem. When devices are plugged into a smart power strip, once the device is turned off, or in standby mode, the smart strip shuts off power to it.
A tankless hot water heater is exactly what it says it is–a hot water heater without a tank. You may be thinking that this is a joke, but I promise, it isn’t. Unlike a traditional hot water heater that must use energy to keep an entire tank of hot water water warm, the tankless heaters heat water on demand as it is being used. This means that energy is only used to heat water when necessary.
Everyone may not actually be a little Irish on St. Patty’s Day, but everyone can actually save a little more energy. For more energy saving help, contact Flame Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical!
