Be Prepared for a Bad Season of Spring Allergies

 

I have bad news for those of you that suffer from allergies.  According to this article from The Weather Channel, Dr. Basset, the founder and director of the Allergy and Asthma Care of New York, feels that this allergy season is going to be one of the worst.  He names a few reasons such as climate warming, the increased winter precipitation, and even the huge temperature jumps from day to day can impact allergies.  For those of us that are affected by allergies this is terrible news.  A spring full of headaches and sniffles is not fun.  However, other than medicine there are some things you can do around your home to help decrease your allergy symptoms:

Change/Clean Your Filters on a Regular Basis-Help keep your home’s air clean by decreasing the amount of pollen and dust floating around.

Schedule a Duct Cleaning-This is a means of clearing out all of the dust and build up inside your duct work.  It should be done every few years.

Install a UV Germicidal Light and/or an Air Purifier-These are two high tech ways of improving your home’s indoor air quality.  They are installed right into the ductwork, and they significantly decrease the amount of pollen, dust, and bacteria.

Vacuum and Dust Regularly-This may seem simple, but it will help your runny nose and red eyes.

Keep Windows and Doors Closed-After a harsh winter of being cooped up this will be hard to do, but it is an important step in keeping that aggravating pollen out of the house.
