HEPA… IT’S WHAT ALL THE KIDS ARE SAYING
HEPA means High-Efficiency Particulate Air. OK, great. What does that mean? HEPA is a super high-tech filter. You probably did not know that it is so high-tech that it was first used during the Manhattan Project in the 1940s.
HEPA filters are used in cars, hospitals, and your home. There is a U.S. Department of Energy regulation that filters must meet to be considered HEPA by the Department of Energy. These filters remove 99.7% of particles in the air (I learned that rounds up to 100% in math). Be careful because filters with names like “HEPA-like” do not necessarily meet the U.S. Department of Energy’s regulations.
HEPA-fully (hopefully, get it?), you learned more about HEPA filters and what it means when your vacuum cleaner says HEPA on it.
