New 2015 Water Heater Standards

As of April 16. 2015 there will be new energy efficiency standards for hot water heaters in effect. Many of these new tanks, in order to become more efficient, will be taller and bulkier due to need for increased insulation. They also might require more venting or the addition of electrical outlets. This means that the purchase and installation of a new hot water heater, after April 2015, will be more expensive because of the extra labor involved. For those of us with homes with water heaters in a tight fit area, this will really impact us as the newer, more efficient, water heaters will not be able to fit in that space anymore.

FLAME is encouraging those of you with water heaters ready for replacement, to consider investing in one now before the April regulations kick in, in order to save you money on the initial investment. Not sure if now is the time to replace? If your water heater is around 10 years old or older, it is probably about time. If anyone is not ready to replace just yet- don’t start worrying too much about having to invest in a new high efficiency water heater when the time comes. This is because, although the initial price will cost more, you will make up for some of that in savings.
