Our Favorite Metro Detroit Apple Orchards

It may not seem like it, but for us, the fall season isn’t just about scheduling furnace inspections and making sure that you’re home is prepared for the coming colder months.  We also enjoy a little fall fun too!  Here in Metro Detroit it’s hard to say that you’ve really experienced fall without checking out one of the many apple orchards and cider mills, and of course–sampling a few donuts.  Here are few of our favorites:

Yates Cider Mill

Located in Rochester Hills, we think Yates is a must do during the fall.  While it doesn’t offer a U-Pick apple option, you can still spend time outside by walking along the scenic path, and little ones can splash around in the river (you may want to pack a change of clothes though!)  Their cider is delicious and it can served hot, cold, or even frozen.  The donuts are wonderful as well, and the outside campus is dog friendly.

Franklin Cider Mill

Your tastebuds are in for a treat when you visit the historic cider mill at Franklin Cider Mill.  It has been in operation since 1837 (though we promise that they use new apples every year).  Can’t get enough of that cider taste?  At Franklin they only serve up one type of donut–the cider donut, and they are always made to order.  Franklin Cider Mill is located in Bloomfield Township.

Blake Farms

You can’t talk about apple orchards in Southeastern Michigan without mentioning Blake’s.  With three locations in Armada, MI, Blake’s is like a one stop shop for all things fall. Apple picking, cider, donuts, and even their “Haunted Big Apple” attractions around Halloween time make Blake’s a perfect place for an autumn day in Michigan.

Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill

Plymouth Orchards doesn’t offer a U-Pick apple option for your visit, but you can find and pick your very own pumpkins for home from their pumpkin patch.  Don’t worry–they offer wagon rides back from the pumpkin patch to help carry your load.  Congratulate yourself on your choice with a glass of freshly pressed cider and a homemade pie.
