Running out of Hot Water? The Heating Element Could be to Blame

Have you ever had that rushed feeling in the shower?  Not because you are running late, but because you know the water heater is very, very close to running out and you do not want to be left rinsing out shampoo in cold water?  Sure, that happens to  all of us every once in a while, especially if we live in a crowded house and are taking showers one after another.  But, if this is something that is happening all of the time, there may be a bigger problem than just one person hogging all of the hot water.

Electric water heaters contain heating elements that gas water heaters do not.  There is a top and bottom heating element, but generally the bottom heating element is what gets worked the most.  When it seems as if there is a low supply of hot water on a regular basis for no reason, and if you have an electric water heater, most likely it is the bottom heating element that is the culprit.

Though it is possible to test for a bad heating element yourself and replace it if necessary, it does involve purchasing special equipment.  If you are not wholly confident, it is best to contact a reputable company to help you discern the problem and install a new heating element, if necessary.
