The Most Beautiful Local Spots in Michigan

Michigan is a beautiful state. In fact, often, while visiting a local park, walking by the lake, or heading ‘up north,’ you can almost hear Tim Allen’s voice describing “pure Michigan.”  The beauty is not just limited to the popular vacation spots, however. MLive found us the most beautiful place in each Michigan county in the article, “The most beautiful place in each of Michigan’s 83 counties.”

FLAME has a large service area, including the following counties: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and St. Clair. Though our main concern is always helping customers in these areas, we couldn’t help but also be curious about what the most beautiful places are there. Here is what Jessica Shepherd, for MLive, had to say:

Macomb County

The Edsel and Eleanor Ford House. “The structure itself is stunning, as is the art and antiques you’ll find inside. The grounds of the house are also impeccable with gardens, trees, open spaces, and deliberate landscaping plans.”

Oakland County

Cranbrook House and Gardens. “Cranbrook House & Gardens is home to some spectacular landscape gardening that looks like natural artwork.”  Shepherd goes on to explain, “But the garden isn’t all.”  The Albert Kahn designed, and art and antique-filled Cranbrook House itself is also worth a visit.

St. Clair County

Harsens Island. “On the north side of Lake St. Clair, this island is full of diverse wildlife. The sapphire water here is perfect for kayaking and the recently popular sport of paddleboarding.”

Washtenaw County

Nichols Arboretum. Shepherd points out that while there are many reasons to visit The Arb, “…it’s all about the peonies, baby.”  When in season, Nichols Arboretum is home to over 800 peonies, as well as walking trails and the Huron River.

Wayne County

Belle Isle. “Belle Isle is something truly special. You can spend a whole day exploring the nearly 1,000-acre island park. There’s an aquarium, an amazing fountain, and the only marble lighthouse in the U.S.”
