Did You Know Toilets Use More Water Than Anything Else in your Home?

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers out there from those of us at FLAME Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical!  Thank you for all of your love and support.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, here is a fun fact from FLAME.

Did you know that toilet flushing uses the MOST water in the home?

According to the Detroit Water and Sewage department, “Without counting lawn watering, typical percentages of water use for a family of four are: toilet flushing 40%, bath/showering 32%, laundry 14%, dishwashing 6%, cooking/drinking 5% and bathroom sink use 3%.” (Water 101:  Questions and Answers about Water Treatment)

This really makes you stop and think about your game plan of water conservation.  I never thought much about how much water I was using whenever I flushed the toilet.  I am still definitely a major proponent of flushing the toilet whenever need be, but perhaps this will make you think about times when you might not need to flush (I am thinking about throwing the goldfish in the dumpster instead of the toilet, nothing gross!)

These percentages give us important information to help us conserve water, but the fact that still remains that we should try to waste as little water as possible in all areas.
