Furnace Inspections Lead to More Efficient Furnaces

It is that time of year again!  Time to put away the beach towels and start thinking about furnace inspections.  Having our furnaces inspected on an annual basis is one of the best things we can do to keep it running efficiently for a long time.  In fact, Energy Star says, “Just as a tune-up for your car can improve your gas mileage, a yearly tune-up of your heating and cooling system can improve efficiency and comfort.”

A furnace inspection, especially early on in the fall, can also preemptively trouble shoot any potential problems in the winter.  It is better to find a problem when it is small and not wait until it is a huge problem.  At Flame, we use a 21-point check system for furnaces that consists of:

Test house for carbon monoxide leaks.

Clean ignition assembly

Check hot water heater

Check flue draft and/ or inducer motor Oil inducer and blower motor

Check burner

Measure volt amps on all motors

Check & tighten electrical connections

Check blower, lubricate if necessary

Check filters and or electronic air cleaner

Clean Flame sensor

Check heat exchanger for carbon monoxide

Start and check all equipment

Check operation of Carbon monoxide detector
