Home Decorating Tips for Heating Your Home

What are some things that you to do keep warm?  Wear layers, keep doors and windows shut, and jump up and down are a few of the typical strategies for staying warm. If those aren’t working enough for you, then there are some ways that you can use home decorating to help you keep warm.  Yep, the way you decorate and arrange your furniture can help you to feel nice and toasty!

Move Furniture away from Vents

Those furnace registers may be a bit of an eyesore in your home, but it is in your best interest to keep them clear.  This way they can blow air directly and easily into the open room.  This will heat you and your family more quickly and efficiently, and it will also help save money and energy because the furnace does not have to work harder to move the air around the blocking item.  If you are worried about how they look, the registers can always be painted to match with your floors, ceilings, or walls.

Also, move couches and chairs away from outside walls or windows since these areas will tend to be pretty chilly.

Add rugs

Filling your home with rugs will add a layer of insulation the ground, it will feel warmer than tile or wood on feet, and it will create a cozy ambiance to the room.  In addition, having an area rug can add a lot of color and style!

Use Window Treatments

Closing curtains and drapes can help to keep warm air inside and cold air outside.  You can even take this a step further and put up insulate drapes in your home for extra warmth.

Work with Color and Texture

Warm paint colors like oranges and reds as well as warm textures like corduroy can really create a feeling of warmth inside of your home.  Purchasing some inexpensive throw pillows in these colors and textures to use in the winter can definitely add some coziness.  These can be switched our for “cooler” fabrics and colors in the summer.

Shut the doors to unused rooms

There’s no point in wasting precious heat on rooms that you aren’t using.  Therefore, shut doors to keep the heat in whatever room you are currently in.

Though these are all great tips and tricks for staying a little bit warmer during this freezing cold winter, having a well maintained properly working heating system is vital to your family’s comfort and safety when it comes to staying warm.  Contact Flame if you have any questions or would like to learn more about heating your home.
