Inspect Your Furnace for Safety

A few days ago an Indianapolis neighborhood suffered major damages including the death of two people due to a home explosion.  Though the cause of this has not yet been determined, there are theories that it was due to a faulty furnace (“Natural gas-fueled appliances investigated in Indy home explosion,” CBS News).  This is only speculation and it does not mean that you necessarily have to be worried about your furnace and home but you should be proactive.

Just because your furnace is running does not necessarily mean that it is running safely.  That is why it is so important to have your furnace inspected annually.  Not only will this maintain your furnace, elongating its lifespan, but an inspection also helps to protect your home and family.  Recently Flame Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical was featured on Local 4 where they discussed the important of having your furnace inspected in order to ensure safety. Making sure your furnace is safe

In the news clip, Brian Williams of Flame is interviewed and the clip explains that the heat exchanger is the biggest worry especially since it is not clearly visible to the homeowner.  A cracked heat exchanger could lead to the circulation of carbon monoxide throughout the home. Additionally, though there are automatic shut-offs in the furnace, it is still important to be wary if you smell natural gas and make sure to have your furnace inspected.
