Have you heard about programmable thermostats also known as set back thermostats? Most likely yes. So you know that in theory they save money and energy by automatically lowering and raising the temperature in your home depending on when it is needed. That may seem like a lot of work and fuss. However, it is not. It seriously does work in theory and in reality.
According to Energy Star, programmable thermostats are “…one of the easiest ways you can save energy, money, and help fight global warming?” Also, you can save up to $180/year just from a programmable thermostat alone (imagine combining that with buying the generic brand cereal….) Here is an example of the settings that Energy Star programmable thermostats come with in order for you to receive the most benefits (These can be adjusted):
|Setting||Time||Setpoint Temperature (Heat)||Setpoint Temperature (Cool)|
|Wake||6:00 a.m.||≤ 70° F||≥ 78° F|
|Day||8:00 a.m.||Setback at least 8° F||Setup at least 7° F|
|Evening||6:00 p.m.||≤ 70° F||≥ 78° F|
|Sleep||10:00 p.m.||Setback at least 8° F||Setup at least 4° F|
The other good news…as you can tell from this chart, programmable thermostats are helpful in both the winter and the summer. Now go and enjoy this snowy day, contact Flame for any questions about programmable thermostats or check out the Energy Star website, where much of this info came from.
