Summer Dreamin’- Weather Forecasts for Spring and Summer 2019

Ahhh, there’s nothing like Michigan in February. Our backyards transition from picturesque snow-covered landscapes to muddy swamps to treacherous ice rinks in a week’s time. Weather forecasts are filled with winter weather advisories and threats of ice storms, and parents all over the state are crossing their fingers that school won’t be closed again.

In fact, an article from Thrillist actually ranks Michigan as having the second worst winter in the country (first place goes to Minnesota).

Yes, February in Michigan truly is a unique time.

Amongst all that, we still see some blue skies and sunshine every once in a while, and our hopes get raised thinking of spring and summer. And since we are glass-half-full people over here, we are beginning to think about warmer weather and putting away our snow shovels for good. So, what are the predictions for this spring and summer? What can we be looking forward to?

NOAA Predictions

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have released Climate maps of the United States predicting the temperature and precipitation for June, July, and August of 2019. According to these maps, Southeastern Michigan looks to have above-average amounts of precipitation this summer and above-average temperatures.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac Predictions

Another source, The Old Farmer’s Almanac, offers up the following prediction for spring and summer 2019:

“April and May will be slightly warmer than normal, with near-normal precipitation. Summer will be cooler and slightly drier than normal. The hottest periods will be in late May, June, early July, and mid-August.”

It looks like there may be some contradictory information between the NOAA and The Old Farmer’s Almanac, but there is definitely an agreement that June, July, and August will be hot!

Whatever the weather, it will be so nice to walk outside without needing to be bundled like a burrito, right? Good strength to ride out the rest of this Michigan winter!

And, because we don’t want to be too down on our beloved state, there are plenty of fun things to do in the mitten during the winter months.
