When cold winter temperatures strike it can be really hard to shake the chill, even if your furnace is working properly. So here are six creative ways to warm up this winter:
Snuggle with your favorite four legged furry friend. We know that body heat helps to keep our temperature up, and cuddling with a dog or cat gives us that extra heat and some furry warmth!
Eat healthy fats. Were you looking for another reason to put off that New Year’s diet? Healthy fats, found in foods such as avocados and nuts, increase your metabolism, which helps keep you warmer! Just be aware that the key word here is healthy fats.
Drink or eat your warmth: tea, coffee, soup, hot chocolate etc… Warm food will really help you feel warmer! Plus holding a hot mug can heat up chilly hands.
Use that humidifier. Humid air feels warmer, so either pull out your portable humidifier or turn on your whole home humidifier to warm up. Another benefit? Humidifiers can also help to prevent the flu.
Layer, layer, layer. This one isn’t very creative, but warm layers are key to staying warm when the temperatures drop.
Stay clear of alcohol. Unfortunately, despite the fact it makes you feel warmer, alcohol can lower your core temperature. For more information check out this NY Times article.
When the weather is very cold, it is extremely important to make sure your home is properly heated by a furnace or boiler. If you do not have a heat source, or yours or not working, please be sure to contact Flame. If need be, here is a list of warming centers in Detroit.
