Happy March to all!
In like a lion and like a lamb, right? March is the month where we start meteorological spring and astronomical spring (click here to learn about the difference). But, when it comes to March weather in Michigan, it can feel like a bit of a crapshoot.
Snow? Sun? 80 degrees? 30 degrees? They are all options, and you just never know what you are going to wake up to. The good news is that despite all of the day to day variations, things in the third month of the year are still looking up, and every day will be a bit closer to summer than the last.
Here are some facts from Weather Spark that will prove to you that every day in March gets a little bit better and better.
Typically, the daily average high temperatures and daily average low temperatures will increase by over 10 degrees Fahrenheit from March 1 to March 31–meaning, your forecast is likely to look much more friendly at the end of the month than at the beginning.
With that increase in temperature, the chance for snow decreases throughout the month too. (On the flip side–the chance of rain increases). So, as you near the end of the month, you may begin to feel comfortable putting away that shovel and snow blower–but not too far away just yet (we do still live in Michigan).
Cloudy days are still pretty frequent this month, but the hours of daylight continue to increase throughout the month. Weather Spark shares that on March 1 we see 11 hours and 15 minutes of daylight whereas on the 31st we see 12 hours and 41 minutes of daylight.
According to meteorologists at The Weather Channel, the majority of the United States can actually expect above average temperatures in March this year. This is even more reason to be optimistic this month.
