Cold Shower? 4 Reasons Why Your Shower is Cold
When the shower is cold what do you do? Put on an extra layer of deodorant and decide to wait until tomorrow? Or do you just clench your teeth and take the fastest shower of your life? We’ve all been faced with a cold shower before, and it is not fun. Here are four reasons for why your shower is cold this morning:
- The Pilot Light could be out– Before calling a plumber, check your water heater’s pilot to make sure that it is still lit. If you find that it is out, most likely you have found the answer to your problem. You can re-light the pilot light yourself following the manufacturer’s instructions, or you can contact a heating and cooling company, such as Flame, to help.
- The temperature could be set too low- If cold showers are a reoccurring problem in your home, then take a moment to check the temperature setting on your hot water heater. You do not want it set too high, especially if you have young children at home, but setting it too low can mean cold uncomfortable showers.
- The water heater may not be the correct size for your home- Unfortunately, this is a little bit bigger of a problem than a temperature setting or pilot light. Water heaters are designed so that your home should use 75% of the water that the tank can hold. If you and your family use more water than that, your heater will not be able to keep up with the demand. It would be a good idea to consider new water heater options.
- There may be a problem with the dip tube-This is also a larger problem. The dip tube is the part of your water heater that brings cold water down to the bottom of the heater in order for it to be heated. When the dip tube is broken, the cold water and hot water mix within the tank. A plumber should evaluate this problem and determine the best course of action.
So, when you find that you have a cold shower, before you decide to use dry shampoo, you can check to see if there are any quick fixes you can do at home. Or, if the problem seems to be more severe, you can always contact Flame!
