Do Not Block Air Vents or Registers

If you have a forced air heating and cooling system in your home then you have vents or registers that bring the air to the rooms in your home.  These can be located on the wall, on the ceiling, or in the floor.  When decorating and arranging the furniture in your home, these vents or registers can be quite an eyesore, and it can be very tempting to cover them up with couches or tables.  It is important to NOT do this, however.  Blocking the vents or registers can restrict the air flow and cause your furnace or air conditioner to need to work even harder to heat or cool your home.  This is less efficient and more expensive.
