The National Sleep Foundation recommends that the sleep environment be around 65 degrees Fahrenheit for good sleep. Bonus? Setting your thermostat back during the winter months can also save you money!
Consider a programmable or smart thermostat to help you remember to do this.
Get some exercise
Yep, you can’t avoid it, exercise is plain good for you–even for your sleep hygiene. According to Healthline, “Exercise is one of the best science-backed ways to improve your sleep and health.” However, avoid working out right before bed.
Don’t drink alcohol right before bed
You may think that having a drink helps you sleep, but it doesn’t. It changes melatonin, the sleep hormone, production, and it can contribute to sleep problems such as snoring and sleep apnea.
Schedule sleep
Unfortunately, many of us treat sleep as a luxury. It’s not. Just like other important obligations in your life, schedule sleep and stick to it!
Replace your pillows every 2 years
The National Sleep Foundation advises that pillows should allow you head and neck to remain in a neutral and supported position. Make sure they don’t have any lumps or sagging areas that could prevent this.
