Do-it-yourself projects, better known as DIY projects, have seen a huge increase in popularity over the past few years. Websites like Etsy have allowed people to make money off of their homespun crafts and projects, Maker Faire was essentially founded on the idea of individualistic innovation, and many more people are attempting home renovations and general maintenance on their own to save money. There is even an entire TV network devoted to DIY (the DIY Network).
We’ve created the infographic below to explore this trend and the reasons people engage in doing projects themselves. What we found is that there are two main reason. First, people do DIY projects for fun because it is something they enjoy. Secondly, they do DIY projects to save themselves money. While we certainly won’t discourage anyone from learning new skills to tackle home maintenance projects on their own, we would also like to remind you that certain projects, such as heating, cooling, and electrical maintenance can be dangerous and end up costing you more money if you don’t know what you’re doing. If you find yourself in need of these services call FLAME Heating and Cooling.
