Hose Debris off your Air Conditioner

Spring has sprung!  The only unfortunate thing about this is all the little leaves and buds and maple tree “helicopters” that are falling all over lawns and driveways.  These are a nuisance to clean up, but they can also fall into your air conditioner.

The real problem comes when all of this “junk” and “gunk” builds up on the side of the air conditioner.  If you’ve ever examined your air conditioner you may know this, but if you haven’t:  the sides of the outdoor air conditioning unit look like screens (from a screen door) and they let the air in that will be cooled.  However, air flow is limited when stuff builds up on the side which means that your unit is not working properly or efficiently.

There is a simple solution for this problem and this is just squirting off all the debris with a hose.  Be aware that you should turn off your air conditioner before doing this because otherwise the fan at the top will spray water all over the place!  An easy way to turn off your unit is to follow a line or cord that goes from your unit to a box on the wall.  If you open the box there will be a way to turn off your air conditioner (these ways differ some depending on the model and brand).  After you turn it off, you are free to squirt away!
