When the shower is cold what do you do? Â Put on an extra layer of deodorant and decide to wait until tomorrow? Â Or do you just clench your teeth and take the fastest shower of your life? Â We’ve all been faced with a cold shower before, and it is not fun. Â Here are four reasons for why your shower is cold this morning:
- The Pilot Light could be out– Before calling a plumber, check your water heater’s pilot to make sure that it is still lit. Â If you find that it is out, most likely you have found the answer to your problem. Â You can re-light the pilot light yourself following the manufacturer’s instructions, or you can contact a heating and cooling company, such as FLAME, to help.
- The temperature could be set too low- Â If cold showers are a reoccurring problem in your home, then take a moment to check the temperature setting on your hot water heater. Â You do not want it set too high, especially if you have young children at home, but setting it too low can mean cold uncomfortable showers.
- The water heater may not be the correct size for your home- Â Unfortunately, this is a little bit bigger of a problem than a temperature setting or pilot light. Â Water heaters are designed so that your home should use 75% of the water that the tank can hold. Â If you and your family use more water than that, your heater will not be able to keep up with the demand. Â It would be a good idea to consider new water heater options.
- There may be a problem with the dip tube-This is also a larger problem. Â The dip tube is the part of your water heater that brings cold water down to the bottom of the heater in order for it to be heated. Â When the dip tube is broken, the cold water and hot water mix within the tank. Â A plumber should evaluate this problem and determine the best course of action.
So, when you find that you have a cold shower, before you decide to use dry shampoo, you can check to see if there are any quick fixes you can do at home. Â Or, if the problem seems to be more severe, you can always contact FLAME!
