Avoid the Flu with a Humidifier

This time of year it can be confusing as to what season it is.  Coffee shops proudly display signs for pumpkin flavored drinks, but department stores are already beginning to deck their halls with Christmas decorations.  No matter what season you think it is, I think we can all agree that it is the beginning of FLU SEASON.  According to Flu.gov, “Seasonal flu activity usually peaks in January or February, but it can occur as early as October and as late as May.”

Protecting ourselves and our families against the flu is important, and we all know that it is a good idea to wash our hands often and avoid touching our faces when the flu is around.  Flu.gov states that what is even more important is the flu shot, “Getting the flu vaccine is your best protection against the flu.”

There are other preventative measures you can take besides just the flu shot and washing your hands.  There is actually a way to arm your home against the flu through the use of a humidifier.  The flu thrives in extremely dry (under 50% humidity) or extremely moist (over 98% humidity) situations, which is why it is so common in the dry winter.  With a humidifier, especially with a whole home humidifier, you can ensure that your home does not get too dry or too humid.  In order to avoid the flu and mold, it is recommended that you keep your home at around 50-60% humidity (Humidifiers Can Help Prevent the Flu).
