5 Metro-Detroit Christmas Light Displays You Don’t Want to Miss

By now, many of the community Christmas trees have been lit and the holiday season is in full swing.  This time of year the days are short, but–thanks to Christmas lights–the nights are definitely not gloomy.  Even if it is tough to drive home from work everyday in the dark, seeing houses lit up with twinkling lights can make the ride that much better.

When it comes to decorating your own home with Christmas lights, we are all about safety.  Trimming up your home with lights is fun and festive, but we should always be cautious when dealing with electricity.  Click here for our decorating safety tips.

If you are looking to really turn things up a notch this year, there are a few areas around metro Detroit with outstanding Christmas lights and other holiday displays.  Here is a round-up of some of our favorite metro-Detroit Christmas light displays.

5 Metro-Detroit Christmas Light Displays You Don’t Want to Miss

1. Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo

Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo is fun for all ages.  Staggered entrance times make it so the walking path never feels to crowded, and you can stroll and look at the incredible light displays at whatever pace you would like.  Feeling chilly?  Stop and warm up at one of the many bonfires and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.

2. Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village

Greenfield Village’s Holiday Nights is more than just a display of Christmas lights.  You truly feel like you are walking into the pages of A Christmas Carol. There are plenty of activities to take part in, or you can simply enjoy the sights and sounds while snacking on some roasted chestnuts.

3. Wayne County Lightfest in Westland

Located on Hines Drive, cars can pay a $5.00 fee to drive through the five miles of the Wayne County Lightfest.  Stay warm and cozy, crank up the Christmas tunes, and don’t forget to fill your thermos with hot chocolate beforehand.

4. The Big, Bright, Light Show in Rochester

If you haven’t seen downtown Rochester during the holiday season, then you need to go.  The stores in downtown Rochester are all lit up with over 1 million lights, from 5 p.m.-12 a.m. every night through January 5, 2020.  Visiting the Big, Bight Light Show is a beautiful way to get in the festive mood and get some of your shopping done.

5. Campus Martius in Downtown Detroit

Big, beautiful tree plus an ice rink.  What can be more iconic Christmas than that?  Strap on the skates or simply enjoy a walk around before heading off to one of the surrounding restaurants for dinner.
