Furnace Inspections Lead to More Efficient Furnaces
It is that time of year again! Time to put away the beach towels and start thinking about furnace inspections. Having our furnaces inspected on an annual basis is one of the best things we can do to keep it running efficiently for a long time. In fact, Energy Star says, “Just as a tune-up for your car can improve your gas mileage, a yearly tune-up of your heating and cooling system can improve efficiency and comfort.”
A furnace inspection, especially early on in the fall, can also preemptively troubleshoot any potential problems in the winter. It is better to find a problem when it is small and not wait until it is a huge problem. At FLAME, we use a 21-point check system for furnaces that consists of:
Test house for carbon monoxide leaks.
Clean ignition assembly
Check hot water heater
Check flue draft and/ or inducer motor Oil inducer and blower motor
Check burner
Measure volt amps on all motors
Check & tighten electrical connections
Check blower, lubricate if necessary
Test safety controls
Check thermostat
Check humidifier
Check filters and or electronic air cleaner
Clean FLAME sensor
Check heat exchanger for carbon monoxide
Start and check all equipment
Check operation of carbon monoxide detector
Check pilot assemblies
Check condensate drain
Change standard air filter
Change humidifier pad
