Furnace not Working? It Could Be the Snow

We have had our first big snow of the season in Metro Detroit thanks to Winter Storm Caly, and now we can truly say, “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!”  However, there are things to consider with a snowfall other than just getting into the holiday spirit, especially if your home has a high efficiency furnace.

If you have a high efficiency furnace (90% AFUE or above), you need to check that the intake and exhaust pipes located on the side of your home are not blocked by snow.  These pipes are generally white PVC.  Call FLAME if you have trouble locating them.  If these pipes get blocked with snow that can cause your furnace to not work properly.  Over the next few days, if your furnace stops working, check those pipes out first to make sure they are not blocked by snow before calling a professional.

Also, while shoveling snow, be careful to not accidentally block off the pipes.  And if you use a snow removal company, be sure to alert them to the pipes’ location as well.

Not sure if you have a 90% AFUE furnace?  Contact FLAME, and we will help you figure it out!
