Ready to Make the Switch to Forced Air Heating and Cooling?

Many older homes do not have forced air heating systems.  These homes instead have steam or hot water heat and therefore do not have air conditioning, humidification, or air filtration.  That is why in this day and age plenty of owners of older homes are curious about what it takes to switch from their steam heat to forced air heating and cooling.

So, the question is…how big of a deal is it to make the switch?

The answer is that it depends on the type of house you have.  One floor, or ranch houses, just need the unit installed in the basement and duct work run up to the first floor.  In homes with more than one floor, walls will have to be opened up in order to run the duct work all the way from the basement to the second floor.  However, there is another option with two story homes, and that is purchasing two units: one for the basement and one for the attic.  This would minimize the invasiveness of the work, but it would be costly.

Overall, switching to forced air heating and air conditioning is messy and expensive.  However, there are some great benefits that come with it such as air conditioning for those sweltering summer days, air filtration to help reduce allergies and sickness, and humidification to keep the air comfortable in both the summer and the winter.
