Watch Where You Shovel Your Snow…

Snow has finally come to Metro Detroit, even though it is about 2 months late.  With snow comes the hope from students of a snow day and the new sleds from Christmas finally having the price stickers taken off them.  You also may have just remembered how much you hate scraping your car in the morning or shoveling the driveway.  Apart from that, there is something else that you should be aware of with snow.  Don’t eat the yellow stuff.

Just kidding (not really), but I have better advice that will keep you and your family warm and toasty in the home.  If you have a 90% efficiency furnace or higher than you have probably noticed two white PVC pipe sticking out the side of your house somewhere.  The lower one is typically an intake for combustion, while the higher one is the exhaust.  When it snows, make sure to keep those pipes clear of snow. This could mean clearing away snow from a large fall, or making sure to not make that your designated snow pile place when you shovel.  Having snow in that pipe could cause your furnace to malfunction.  On a cold, cold day this could be bad news.

If you have questions or would like more information about this, please feel free to contact FLAME.  Enjoy the snow (for now)!
