Having your heater break during the winter can be inconvenient, uncomfortable, and even dangerous. Â When the temperatures are low, no one wants a home without heat. - Did you blow a fuse? Â Check the electrical panel to make sure that this is not the reason for the loss of heat. Â This can be a simple problem to fix by either resetting the breaker or getting a new fuse.
- Check the pilot light. Â Is it still lit? Â If not, re-lighting the pilot light might do the trick. Â Also, check to make sure the gas valve is still open.
- Did it snow recently? Â If you have a high efficiency furnace don’t forget to check for blockage in the PVC intake and outtake pipes along the side of the house. Â If you find any, try to clear it out to the best of your abilities and see if that helps the heater.
- Make sure the furnace and thermostat are set to “heat.”
- The problem could be with the thermostat and not the furnace. Â Try playing around with a few different temperatures to see if that helps anything.
