Does Furnace Size Matter?

Does furnace size matter?  YES.  When it comes to buying a furnace there are many things to consider:  size, efficiency, speed, and brand.  A furnace is not one size fits all, and a qualified consultant will help you to determine what the best size of furnace is for your home.

Why is furnace size so important?  The size affects how the furnace runs, which affects its lifespan and your utility bills.  It may seem counterintuitive, but a smaller furnace does not always save you money. A furnace that is too small for your home will have to work extra hard to try and heat all of the space.  This leads to a waste of energy and money and extra wear and tear on the unit.  Do not be tempted to get a too small furnace just because you think it will be less expensive!

On the flip side, do not make the mistake of investing in a furnace that is too large for your home.  A furnace that is too big will have too much power which mean it will continue to cycle on and off in order to try to keep your home at a consistent temperature.  All of the cycling on and off is inefficient and not good for the health of the unit.  Furnaces that are too big tend to be noisy as well.

Investing in a new furnace is something that most of us will only do once or twice in our lives so we want to make sure that we do it right.  Contact Flame for more information about residential heating services and residential heating installation.
