Turning the Air Conditioner On in March
It is said that March comes in like a lion, but out like a lamb. Here in Michigan I think we have definitely seen the “lion” part of March this year, but we are still patiently waiting on the “lamb” to come. Usually in March we have a “sneak preview” of spring with a few warm days followed by another blast of winter. If that happens this year, it can be confusing as to what to do in regard to your heating and cooling. Should you turn on your air conditioner if it warms up? Should you turn off your furnace? To answer those questions, here are a few basic guidelines:
- Do not turn on the air conditioner unless there is at least TWO DAYS of warm weather. This allows the oil in the compressor to loosen up enough to operate. Not waiting could result in a damaged compressor.
- When switching from heating to cooling you must wait a few minutes between turning one off and the other one off. This will ensure that the circuit board does not fry.
