8 Signs that Tell You Spring is Coming
When is it spring? Technically the Vernal Equinox, or first day of spring, is always on March 19, 20, or 21 in the Northern Hemisphere. For many of us–especially in Michigan–that day doesn’t always feel like spring though. How can we know that spring is coming?
As we trudge through these last weeks of winter, what are some signs of spring that we can look for to help to give us hope that winter will actually end.
8 Signs that Tell You Spring is Coming
1. Warmer temperatures
One of the most obvious ones is a thaw in the chill in the air. Even if the temperatures aren’t quite warm enough to your liking just yet, we start to see a gradual rise in the daily highs in March. In fact, on average the first 70 degree day in Detroit is on March 29.
2. Daylight savings time
That “Springing Forward” can be a little bit painful when your alarm goes off in the morning, but it does give us some longer days. More light and sunshine is definitely a sign of spring.
3. Singing, chirping birds
Even when there is snow covering the ground, there still comes a day when we wake up to birds chirping. It’s a sound that I didn’t realize that I had missed until I hear it again.
4. Flowers budding
If you look closely, you may be able to begin to see some buds. Red and silver maple trees tend to have the earliest buds.
5. Rolling down the car window
When you find yourself rolling the car window down, you know that spring is here or very close. After months of waiting for the car to warm up every time you get in, it can be so freeing to roll down the window and let some sunshine and fresh air in.
6. Peeps of daffodils
Do you see them? The daffodils starting to poke their heads up from the ground. These early blooming flowers give us hope of all of the rest of the beautiful flowers to come.
7. Scheduling an air conditioner inspection
Scheduling an annual maintenance inspection for your air conditioner is one of the best things you can do in order to prolong its life. It’s best to have your a/c inspection completed before temperatures get too high. That way any potential problems can be taken care of prior to really needing the air conditioner.
8. People out walking their dogs
It seems like as we head out of February and into March, any day that has temperatures above freezing will see neighborhoods full of families out for walks or people walking their dogs.
